How to Renovate a Cast Iron Fireplace

We stock plenty of cast iron fireplaces which are already renovated and ready to install, but some of our customers come to the Yard looking for fireplaces in their original state so they can experience the renovation themselves.
Below are some general directions of how to renovate a cast iron fireplace.
1. Start by using nitromores to strip away the layers of paint, then a wire brush in an electric drill try to get the last few bits of paint off & give a slight sheen to the high spots.
2. Once it is back to the bare metal apply a black graphite paste like Liberon Iron Paste with something like a shoe brush, let dry then buff to the required sheen.
3. This can, in some cases, be quite a time consuming job, you might want to cheat and have the fireplace dipped to save time, depending how many layers of paint there are to remove.
4. If your fireplace has tiles which need replacing, it can often be easier to source a whole new set rather than trying to find replacements and we often carry these in stock.
